Private credit in Australia: A maturing sector

Australia’s private credit sector is rapidly evolving. High interest rates and tighter regulatory oversight are tailwinds for private credit’s growth. The higher-rate environment has the potential to make private credit yields more attractive to investors, providing them with a steady source of income, as well as diversification benefits.

Globally, private credit is seeing continued growth amid recent developments in the asset class. AUM stood at US$2.1 trillion (A$3.2 trillion) at the end of 2024 and is projected to reach US$4.5 trillion (A$6.8 trillion) by 2030, according to Preqin’s Private Markets in 2030 report.

Global Investment Institute has partnered with Preqin on our upcoming Private Credit Investment Forum for institutional asset allocators taking place on Thursday, 14 May 2026 in Melbourne CBD, Victoria. As part of our partnership, delegates joining our Private Credit Investment Forum may receive complimentary access* to the Private Credit module within Preqin Pro.
