Spotlight on Adam Nankervis, Portfolio Manager & Partner, Oak Hill Advisors

Global Thought Leader Spotlight

Adam Nankervis, Portfolio Manager & Partner, Oak Hill Advisors (OHA)

In my role as Portfolio Manager and Partner at Oak Hill Advisors (OHA), I share responsibility for managing several of OHA’s multi-strategy and private credit portfolios with a focus on North America and Europe.

I serve on several fund investment committees and on the firm’s new product and business activity committee.

Previously, I have shared portfolio management responsibility for OHA’s high yield bond and leveraged loan portfolios and held senior research leadership roles covering the paper and packaging, services, gaming, lodging and real estate industries.

U.S. credit market opportunities
Credit markets in the U.S. continue to evolve, creating multiple avenues to deploy capital and generate attractive risk-adjusted returns.

Opportunities are increasingly shaped by record levels of private equity dry powder supporting M&A activity, a significant slowdown in private equity monetisation, and a rise in liability management exercises.

In addition, there is also a meaningful and growing opportunity set in asset backed financing, particularly across data centres, fibre networks, cell towers, shipping and aviation. These areas continue to expand as underlying real assets scale and require flexible capital solutions.

This is all occurring in a market environment where discipline around underwriting standards is increasingly critical as companies navigate shifting business models, the accelerating impact of A.I., evolving supply chains, and a wider dispersion in credit quality.

These dynamics collectively create both compelling opportunities for thoughtful credit investors and heightened risks for those who overlook the importance of structural and sector specific shifts that are reshaping the market.

Implications for sophisticated investors
The opportunity set within developed-market credit is expanding meaningfully. However, capturing these opportunities requires broad and flexible access to the full credit universe, as dispersion across products, structures, and sectors continues to widen. In this environment, there is an increased premium on understanding the underwriting discipline, investment process, and true competitive advantage of your credit manager.

The ability to evaluate complex capital structures, navigate evolving risk dynamics, and source differentiated deal flow is becoming an increasingly important determinant of long-term outcomes.
